In the face of increasing legal challenges and systemic barriers, the South Asian community in the U.S. is fighting battles on multiple fronts. The South Asian Legal Defense Fund aims to protect the rights of our communities through a mix of direct legal services and advocacy, focusing on the following policy areas: gender-based violence, labor exploitation, racialized Islamophobia, and civil liberties violations.  We hope to support vulnerable workers, challenge systemic barriers, and assist in cases of domestic violence, wage theft, and hate crimes.  The Fund also mobilizes rapidly in times of crisis, offering immediate legal support to those in need.  We’re launching this urgent campaign to raise $350,000 for the South Asian Legal Defense Fund to ensure our community has the legal resources, advocacy, and support necessary to fight for justice.

Why Is This Urgent?

    In the current climate of heightened anti-immigrant sentiment and racial inequality, the demand for legal defense has never been greater. New laws and policies continue to target communities of color, and the legal system is one of the most powerful tools we have to fight back.

    Without immediate financial support, we risk seeing vulnerable members of our community fall through the cracks—those who cannot afford legal counsel, those who fear speaking out, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by systemic injustice.

  • Hiring staff to provide free and low-cost legal aid for South Asian individuals

  • Strategic litigation to fight discriminatory policies and uphold civil rights

  • Legislative and Policy Advocacy

  • Educational outreach and Diversity Pipeline Building to empower our community with knowledge about their legal rights and cultivate the next generation of South Asian public interest attorneys

  • General maintenance costs to keep us running and providing legal advocacy to the community
